POTUSWorld.com - The Presidential News Source - Substantive summaries of the top U.S. and related global news reports about the President of the United States Barack Obama, and his administration.

President Barack Obama may have received a rough break, but welcomed outcome, during the 'Super Tuesday' elections on May 18. Yet, underneath are the detectable slow-rolling vibrations of centrist, moderate and semi-liberal voter discontent the middle. There's impatience, even intolerance, about a perceived trend in the "change" POTUS 44 promised during his campaign.
Among many, the euphoria over his historic election has worn off. Jobs are still not coming fast enough, the economy is still detectably shaky, too many people are still ass-out of affordable home ownership, a looming Afghan quagmire seems to be setting in and there's that overdue unfinished business and festering anger about illegal immigration's exponential effect on many urban and suburban cities. That's just a few of the top tier challenges on Mr. Obama's to-do list.
Yes, we can be grateful about this President's efforts to improve the image, geopolitical logistics and perception of America in a complex globalized economic and political world. Then again, despite the reality of globalization, politics and politricks are still local. All the more reason why Mr. Obama must do much more connecting and communicating locally, beyond the predictable pep rally rhetoric of meet-ups and town hall talk fests that many are growing jaded about.
Real one-on-one face time and campaign-style local listening tours matter and I'll say it for all those thinking it, those Weekly Address website videos just aren't hitting the spot anymore. A truly clear and informative 24/7 'Obama Channel' couldn't hurt considering the myopic and moronic coverage by most of commercial broadcast and print news. Still today, "The medium is the message" and it is defining and redefining this POTUS to an already cynical electorate.
However, I'm hoping with few reservations — for all that Barack Obama is capable of doing and being as potentially one of our greatest Presidents in several generations — that he truly pays very close attention to the political and socioeconomic angst of that expanding electorate in the middle. Being liked, based on polls, is not the same as being desired and rehired regarding getting the job done — a job most voters felt they closed the deal on during Election Day 2008.
Beyond the radar of even his closest and wisest advisors, President Obama has the potential of having his re-election chances sucked into an electoral black hole by the collective energy of voters that feel or perceive that he was not really listening to them on the above and other core voter issues. Surely, the mess left behind by the previous Administration has been daunting during his recovery efforts aside from the gauntlet of partisan vipers forever in his path.
Nevertheless, as the electorate of change will still struggle to keep lasting faith in his promises, "change" could soon mean considering a different choice in the next Presidential election.

British Petroleum's Misfortune Is An Ironic
Good Fortune For America's Environment

President Obama may have, or should have, thought that it should be his own "ass to kick" for promoting the idea of offshore oil drilling as a short term option in U.S. energy. The evident recklessness and ongoing incompetence of British Petroleum's oil spillage in the Gulf of Mexico has become a horrifying catalyst for America.
Aside from he and his Cabinet jumping into the water and vacuuming-up the oil themselves, POTUS and crew have been relatively attentive, action-oriented and proactive in this disaster. Long before most news media woke-up to a new hype angle for their talk shows, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder was already taking major action steps toward future prosecutions in and beyond this disaster. Hopefully, this includes justifiable criminal prosecutions for personnel within our own Minerals Management Service.
Calls for outward verbal anger that's great for TV drama, rather than focused effective command, just won't cut-it in cleaning-up this latest BP environmental mess. Let's not forget BP's 2006 pipeline spill in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, of 267,000 gallons of oil recently causing toxic fires.
Even with a possible bankruptcy ploy, BP must be held completely responsible from A-to-Z in fully funding the total recovery of the environment, plus full restitution for all legitimate parties financially damaged by their negligence.
It is abundantly clear, more than ever before, that the destructive blow-back of offshore oil drilling is a far greater danger compared to the perceived benefits. Over 20 years after the Exxon Valdez tanker spillage of toxic oil into Alaska's pristine environment, that should have been a major message and alarm about the evils of 'Big Oil' and its lack of fail-safe strategies and cleanup preparedness.
In a greater sense, U.S. regulators and lawmakers are also highly culpable in these disasters. It's been obvious for decades that the billions in salaries and benefits our hard-earned tax dollars pay them to legislate rules and protect us are no match for the campaign contributions, and numerous unrecorded kickbacks, they continue to get from an essentially self-regulated oil industry.
Now, with an even greater sense of real urgency, we must recognize the clear and present dangers of our addiction to fossil fuels as an energy resource. On this matter, the U.S. Congress and the President must be in full sync on truly effective legislation to move us quicker into 21st century solutions and actions on clean energy policy.
Continuing to risk our fragile environment, physical health and national economic sustainability with an outmoded 19th century energy resource is simply stupid. Proceeding with this backward behavior, proves that this century will see even more horrific harm to our future existence.
The exponential dangers are as visible as the tons of BP oil that slime our waters, shores, wildlife and food chain.

Reassign General Stanley McChrystal While
Assigning A More Fit Leader-Commander

Insubordination is not a light weight matter when it comes to truly effective military order, strategy, tactics, execution and the chain of command. It's not just a simple matter of disrespect for a superior officer. It is more about setting a poor and undisciplined example for the troops that a commanding officer leads.
This foundation and line that defines General Stanley McChrystal's derogatory and disrespectful Rolling Stone magazine public statements are a clear transgression. The line has been present since General George Washington served a fledgling new nation, right through his presidency of the United States of America.
Reassigning Mr. McChrystal will serve to allow him to best reassess his present and future as one of many capable military servants of the American people. It also effectively removes him as a lightening rod for pity and publicity generated by others over public transgressions he is fully responsible for committing several times.
The President of the United States is the chief representative of the people's interest in all matters both civilian and military that affect our nation. General McChrystal is one of many subordinates of the President, as well as a publicly paid employee of the people his Commander-In-Chief represents.

There are many equal or better generals throughout our military forces that can competently replace this officer. No general, regardless of stature or experience is the end all and be all in our nation's defense. General William E. Ward, commander of the U.S. Africa Command, may be just one of several well-rounded and extensively experienced general officers that can effectively execute the President's and the American people's true long term objectives in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The terms words are: effectively execute and long term objectives.
The 21st century U.S. military is far more than just bullets, bombs and high-tech tools. It is also increasingly more about the person-to-person effectiveness of our military men and women on the ground in America's current and long term global objectives. a.k.a. national security.
Now, more than ever before, we need broad thinking generals and a commander-in-chief that lead this and future generations of soldiers to be on the same page both publicly and privately.
